I have always considered being born in the spring a blessing. April to me is a perfect spring smile, and this poem catches that in the line 'If ever I saw a blessing in the air...' (Report) Reply

This has been my favourite poem since I read it at school at age 12. Now I'm pushing 50 and I still love its lyricism and optimism. And although I don't live in England any more, it seems to evoke perfectly an English spring day. (Report) Reply

poet Henry David Thoreau

My books I'd fain cast off, I cannot read,
'Twixt every page my thoughts go stray at large
Down in the meadow, where is richer feed,
And will not mind to hit their proper targe.
