'Arab Spring

As I set my mind to write
about something I know not much of,
for my writing thus far, has been about romance, passion,
and love.

I want to understand why
the people have chosen to take this stand-
Why they are willing to scream and shout,
and die for the good of their fellow man.

It has taken the Eastern World by storm-
Change is inevitable, and a part of life, as is
death.
So why have you taken the streets,
risking everything, just so you may be heard?

You protest for humanity, and basic human rights...
And we protest for Occupy Wallstreet,
Tea Parties, extreme left, and extreme right.
You are on the right track, and it seems that we are loosing sight.

Here in the West, we have fathers killing thier children, then cowardly, themselves.
Mothers killing thier daughters, and getting away with murder.
Kidnappings, abductions, and teachers we should trust,
molesting our children-
And we shout to the world, that same sex marriage is morally wrong and unjust?
Where are our principles, where are our justifications?

Though I'm only one voice here, I'm only one man-
If only I could join you in your fight,
cross the oceans to take a stand...
But till then, I can only watch and pray,
that you cause is just and the end is in sight.
Freedom and Equality to all I say; Peace and Love for all the people-
Thus my words hit home, ring true,
That God and Allah protect and bless you.

Goodnight.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This, I'm afraid, might cause controversy. I feel passionate about what is going on in my own country (US) as well as in the Middle East. I hope my message is clear, and I haven't offended anyone. I'm not sure I did this very well, but I've been wanting to get this out, it's been in my head for sometime now, and I hope the true meaning of my words are heard. Peace, Love and Happiness for all mankind- For we are All God's children.

Change is inevitable, and a part of life, as is
    death.
So why have you taken the streets,

Change is sometimes the law of life or otherwise it is felt with respect to one place. The Arabic is simply arabesque.Written well Sir (Report) Reply
