Arbejder-Sølvbryllup

Femogtyve lange Aar
hvirvled Sne i tynde Haar,
lagde Rynkespil om Øjet,
magred Kinden, Ryggen bøjed
— saadan skreves Livets Kaar.

I en Tid hvor alting brast,
holdt I ved hinanden fast;
I har ej jert Sind forandret,
trofast har i Vejen vandret
uden Vaklen Haand i Haand.

Sorgen kom som hyppig Gjæst,
Sygdom røved Lønnens Rest,
Vaagelampens spæde Flammer
lyste fra jert snævre Kammer
mangen søvnløs Midnatsstund.

Øde Nætters Barnegraad
gjorde ofte Kinden vaad;
tit har i med stille Vaande
lyttet efter Barnets Aande,
naar paa Trappen Døden stod.

Dog for den, som haaber fast,
aldrig rigtig Lykken brast;
Sorgens Dag og Graadens Nætter,
bange Sjæles Rædsel sletter
Evighedens Finger ud.

Gjorde Troen Gangen let,
da har Tvivlen tabt sin Ret;
bar i bedre Livets Kulde;
satte trygg're Fod i Mulde,
da var Troen Lykkens Ven.

Solen i Guds klare Dag
fandt vel ogsaa eders Tag,
blinked skjælmsk paa Blomst bag Rude,
leged ømt paa Vuggens Pude,
titted ned i Barnets Drøm.

— Femogtyve svundne Aar
her med Stav i Haanden staar,
hilser tavse paa hverandre,
nikker mod jer, før de vandre
ind til Evighedens Kaar.

Poem of the Day

poet Pablo Neruda

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
