Arrival Poem by Ikechukwu Ogbuike

Arrival

I am not looking for a new lover
As much as I am trying to extend this umbrella that gives me cover
And so I ask, friend, tell me the story that is your own
I have been on the sideline for too long, make known to me what is unknown
Are you bothered that your mission is out of vision
Tell me about it even if I don’t have a solution
You can use me as a sounding board
The vicissitudes of life requires developing a point of view that is broad
Is what is disturbing you about your health?
If we live a worthwhile life we should not be afraid of even … death
Or perhaps you are afraid to die too young
Which is better, old wasted age or youth whose pasture is well made in the land beyond
Come then and bid welcome to this new day
Let this morning not find us in aggrandizement of things that will never stay
What counts is not the quantity
If our soul could be at peace with justice and quality
Let me be your shoulder
If it would help you discover you, lay on me that boulder
I would have arrived
If in deeds and words you are satisfied
That there is no better love or lover
Who covets not what belongs to another
For you I am willing to lay this life down to the ground
So you can step on it to begin your own round
