As She Lays

Right there she lays
her body so elegant
as we pray
I remembered the last time I saw her play
outside on that red dirt road
beautiful smile
heart made of pure gold
I wanted to break down and cry
her blonde curls so loose
just as pretty as when she was alive
my little sister
only four
I remember the last time I kissed her
I never knew it would mean goodbye
but she was broken
there was nothing she could take no more
for her momma screamed
her daddy broke her little dreams
night after night
fight after fight
she was always left in fright
I would come kiss her goodnight
sometimes I would hold her tight
I would tell her it would be okay
maybe everything will soon fade away
as I looked at her
laying there
so much peace
for now she can be lost in her dreams atleast
and know everything will forever be okay
always in my heart forever to stay
