At A Distance Poem by Michael Walker

At A Distance

You look at me with love,
Yet keep me at arm's length,
For when push comes to shove,
You can't handle my strength.

Love is easy at a distance,
Because it makes the heart grow fond,
But I don't need no reminiscence
To forge imaginary bonds.

I see you everywhere,
Walking towards the sea,
But you don't even care
If you never see me.

Love is easy at a distance,
Because it makes the heart grow fond,
But I ignore all your insistence,
For your heart's fickle as palm fronds.

You could have been a mother,
Yet you are no one's bride,
So I must find another
To give what you denied.

Love is easy at a distance,
Because it makes the heart grow fond,
But I will meet with no resistance
From she whom with me corresponds.

Intriguing, Michael. From her who with me corresponds, perhaps.
