At Rest Among The Leaves Poem by Susan Oxford

At Rest Among The Leaves

The heart that breaks and will not mend
from the hurt of the love that deceives
She dries her tears and lies down
to find last comfort among the leaves.

The months of trying to heal the wounds
and the words of love she wants to believe
Have failed to strengthen her broken heart
it's time to find ease among the leaves.

She sought a path to happier days
wrapped in the fabric of love he weaves
But the tears than rend the fragile cloth
send her seeking final comfort among the leaves.

She longs for the days when love was pure
and for those days her heart grieves
Her tears spill over the chilly ground
she will soon be at peace among the leaves.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Although this is a dark poem, it reflects a time long ago. The leaves are truly a symbol of a past that has gone, and a love that is everlasting.
