Atoning For Every Raped And Killed Poem by Sharbaaniranjan Kundu

Atoning For Every Raped And Killed

When a woman is raped and killed
the perpetrators of the heinous crime
are not men;
they are cannibals.
Law takes its own course;
but the woman,
of mothers' ilk
having gone through worst ignominy
and having been treated like fodder,
how the society absolve itself of it?
Where shall we hide the shame and pain?
What do you say of a Government
where women are meted out such fate?
India, where Goddesses are revered
who are these Godless
ilk of animals?
How do you go about mitigating
such heinousness?
How do we atone
for such crimes?
God, could you not protect these women, somehow?
And why not?
Why those criminals did not drop dead
the moment they harbored
the mischief of the worst kind?
