Autumnal Poem Poem by Matthew Holloway

Autumnal Poem

The autumn of the year is here
With winter fast approaching
Days grow shorter and colder
Landscapes change as nature succeeds
To the wilting death of its colour
Trees, flowers both fade away
Leaving behind naked twisted forms
Barren trunks and branches reaching up
To a changing sky lost of its warmth
Birds depart to warmer climbs
The morning dew now bitter cold
Soon to be held in a grip of ice
Heavier clothes and coats adorned
Rooms kept warm by fire or radiator
Meals changed to suit the weather
More wholesome and filling
To fend off that cold air
The autumn of the year is here
And winter is coming
