Avoidance Poem by Dowell Oba

Avoidance

Sneaking in on crumbled fears
On quick finishes of immediate task
Shivering sharply at sudden squeak
Expectations false but relief restored.

Creeping in on rumpled fittings
For notices not, indiscernible flee
Low profile attained, begotten ghost
Flying thinly on waves of light.

Crawling in on hind legs
Like surpassing reptile in fierce battle
Overcoming pest on prickly heat
Irritations held by ruled out company.

Tiptoeing in on heavy toes
Unnoticeable spree of swift fadings
Hindering fears of unexpected bump
From unfamiliar figure, comfortable not.

Path changing route on broken walks
On sudden glance at approaching folk
Changing course on flight en route
For mere avoidance, confronting not.
