Await Poem by Nika McGuin

Await

Rating: 3.5

If you really think
that I don't care
despite all the time
and memory
that has flown between
the two of us
then you really are
as dumb as they say

actually I'm dying
to know if you're okay
I am bound, to silently
wait until our two souls
can meet once more
in sublime harmony
until then I can only pray
that God spares life, time,
and change to us both

your dry wave
my feigned hurry
this is all that remains
of our meetings

yet inside we both know
this kind of bond
does not easily loosen
we are family, a
God given fate
that is why
I'll wait

So please, shake off
your anger and resentment
we both know, It is empty
like my soul without yours

Beautiful. Nika's poetry is so easy to get into and experience the feeling and emotions of. Even when it's about an uncomfortable subject, there's something comforting in the way she understands and explains it. Very good unique but completely correct poetry- in my opinion.

I have already commented on this poem, but one comment doesn't exhaust its impact any more than one reading exhausts its meaning. This is the kind of poem Marie Shine describes as flowing, and I can't think of a better word to identify how you persuade your addressee to see the light, acknowledge the bond, heal the rift. We all need poems like this to encourage us to be patient and trust in the long run to fulfill our fondest hopes. It helps me!

I was drawn to this poem because of your one word title - AWAIT. It suggested time, patience, trust to me, and when I read the poem, all of those positive things appeared! You don't tell us in the poem what caused the rift between the speaker and other person, because the poem focuses on the speaker's efforts to heal it. And what a generous spirit she displays - no bitterness or accusation, just an emphasis on the special bond which is threatened: We are family, sublime harmony - these are values to be cherished and so the speaker's words invite reconciliation. The closing passage - your resentment is as empty as my soul is without you - is a complex statement of the importance of their relationship. It's beautifully expressed.
