Awake Poem by Josephine Lauderdale

Awake

Rating: 2.5

Red and yellow
Left and right
With a gray road in-between

Dirty windows
And warm fireplaces
Will all change

The power went off last night
But I was sleeping
And I did not know
Or did I?

The clock struck
One, two, three and four
But I was sleeping And did not know
Or did I?

The cats were racing
Up, down and around the hall
But I was sleeping
And did not know
Or did I?

The stream was drying
From lack of rain
But I was sleeping
And did not know
Or did I?

Someone next-door
Was dreaming
And someone awake
But I was sleeping
And did not know
Or did I?

Seven different creatures
Crossed through my backyard
But I was sleeping
And did not know
Or did I?

I am awake now
The coffee pot is blinking
The clock is chiming
The cats are fed
Neighbors are eating their breakfast
And I see birds at the feeder

I am awake now
