Yes, Doctor, I
am feeling grand.
I do have pain
there in my hand
and also some
there in my thigh
but I'll be fine
and here is why:
those meds of yours
have got me high!
They last how long?
Well, all right, then,
I'll have another
dose at ten.

What's that you have?
No, not today!
Just put that
catheter away!
Before you shove
that thing in me,
please let me see
if I can pee!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Based on a true experience, except that the way it really happened was that I was too groggy to realize what was happening until it was too late.
It was actually a male nurse, not a doctor, who asked 'Nao tem vontade de urinar? ' (Don't you feel like urinating?)When I answered in the negative, suddenly my urinary tract was being violated by a catheter that was probably too large.
Had I known in advance what to expect I would have said, 'Yes, I need to go. Help me into the bathroom.'
The reason my thigh also hurt as well as my hand was because I had had skin taken from my thigh and grafted onto my hand.
