Awkward Accent

  Taunting tongues and all the rest,
I could have sworn -
But wait;
The awkwardness in how you dress,
A notch away from a distraction -
It’s your heavy accent, dear
For me to hear, or rather, listen
Pronunciation must be clear

Was it “Don’t lie to me, ” You said?
I heard, “Come lie with me, ” in bed.
See, I cannot stress it any more
A word’s a sword,
Your double edged lord -

And you forgot to sharpen it, today.
