Axolotl Poem by J.M Berger

Axolotl

i know it always seems the same
and you feel you've only yourself to blame
but c'mon
you've gotta see things for what they're worth

if we've made it like this for so long
then maybe things aren't so wrong
i know we think they are
but at least we're surviving

we'll take the forest and the trees
we like the honey, but you can keep the bees
we've been stung
enough already as it as

yeah i'm lustful and i'm awkward
and i like my new tech to be backwards compatible
but i don't wanna go back
i feel i've made precious little progress as it is

you see this new generation...
we mature without learning
we get payed without earning it
we're on webcam 24/7
but you still can't get a read on us

we are all celebrities
and we're always on their knees
but we're not praying
cuz we turned our backs on the Lord

and maybe i'm not one to speak
because i'm uncouth and i'm weak
and i have a little rage in me
and sometimes i think it'll never die

and if you look at what a poem is called
and can't see where the poet is coming from
i understand
but there's a meaning in there somewhere

there are a few that really deliver of course
by some miracle or some spark or great force
they become great too
but what can you do
