Baby Girl

sand castles by the lake
drawing by candle light
it was just me and you then
we survived though money was tight

tried to teach you all that I knew
push you in places that made you strong
gave you everything I never had
still it never felt like enough

through my tears I remind myself
that I taught you this
to take a chance and live
even if other don't agree with it

so long ago the roles different
back when he left this place
the pain more than I could bear
but you were the reason I stayed

a couple lifetimes later
doors to the past become transparent
I see what helped shape you
and brought you to this moment

While the old heron from the lonely lake
Starts slow and flaps its melancholy wing,
