Mandolyn ...

back to school

back to school is BS
beyond stressful
so i take deep breaths, organize backpacks
wash clothes
form a union in my head
it's picketing right now...
holding up a sign 'Keep Summer Alive'

having to face reality
and be faced with 'can you sign this? '
keeps a pen in my hand,
but not for the reasons i understand
... it's just paper we'll throw away
a signature means nothing.
i say we shake on everything- and rub some spit in it.

Amen, I say to you, Amen... For 34 years late August meant BACK TO SCHOOL for me, and facing the adolescent population in increments of 30 to 40 per hour, one after another... and then taking home papers in increments of 30 to 40 to read and score... and do the same thing the next day, and the next, and the next.... But, hey, Mr. Daniel, that's life in the Modern World! You have a career for 30 + years, and it is always - and the next, and the next, etc. That's what a career is, that's what retirement is, that's what space travel is, that's what gold-prospecting is, that's what being President is, T-H-A-T-'S W-H-A-T I-T I-S... And so ends my catechism.... (Report) Reply

Poem of the Day

poet Robert William Service

Just Home and Love! the words are small
Four little letters unto each;
And yet you will not find in all
The wide and gracious range of speech
Two more so tenderly complete:
