Back To The Land Poem by Dela Bobobee

Back To The Land

Rating: 4.5

Come let’s all go back to the land
let’s go back, back to the beginning
where the aroma of the damp earth
intoxicated us with vigor and mirth
where our sweats fertilized the earth
and the freshness of the new crops
brought us so much exhilaration
and with bumper harvests our pride.

hurry now, lets go back to the land
that gave us so much happiness
as we labour in the showers of rain
and swagger in the morning dews
we were much fulfilled and one
in our tight communal labour links
that brought us so much happiness
we ate fresh fruits, reeked fertility.

the land is calling us back home
from our many fruitless sojourns
let’s sharpen our old hoes again
and whet our blunt machetes too
let’s mend our leaking barns again
and let the serenades from maidens
in the village squares soothe aches
from the toils just as we used to be.
