Step closer
Behold the love in every stroke of the brush
with infinite patience,
avoiding temptation to rush
The colour seen in a certain light is exactly how it is imprinted
in the artists' mind's eye
here reproduced to perfection
guaranteed to elicit the admiring sigh

The heavy daub of palette knife
accentuates the sea
and mere lines and shapes insinuate
birds gliding over the quay..
But it is not until we stand well back
that we see the artists' real intent
in the way the daubs and brush strokes coalesce
- a moment in time to re-invent
They say that life imitates art
and that is a sound observation
for when we stand too close to something we love
we lose focus only to gain frustration
Just like our dealings with family and friends,
the reality and hope are a delicate blend;
With nose to the painting, the image is blurred
the colour is vivid, the emotions intense
and all is part of a creative process
but without perspective, they make no sense
As precise as the blend of paint on canvas
our feelings and thoughts, a tantalising mixture
but only if we are willing to take a step back
can we ever hope to see the bigger picture.
