Barbara Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Barbara

Barbara

She, a Jew
He, Muslim
she, older
he, younger
first they met
then friend
finally the same roof.

She, widow
spoiled by late husband
he earned lot as lawyer
she bluffed and showed off
broke lines with friends
(everyone around her)

In old age, retired
she is leech.

He married a young girl
of his age…
Bride says:
“It’s our life and not hers,
we must work and must save…”

Once again Barbara is alone;
things have changed…
he has debts and expense.

Talk is not of the faiths
not even of the race
it is of human…
we are wrong if we say:
“So are the Christians, or Hindus
Jewish or, the Muslims…”
