Barely Waking Poem by Christine Austin Cole

Barely Waking

Rating: 5.0

In that moment
When awareness collided
With recollection -
The thunderous sound of dust
Burst into and through
The overwhelming, silent pause
That followed
And I swear I heard
A song dancing across
The breathless sky

My mind raced
Like wild lightning through
A forgotten time
When the stars were all blind
Locked as they were
Behind those reticent doors
Of nighttime
And I sensed awakening
As a dream was freed
In infinite sighs

I could believe
In the near impossibilities
Tangled up in truth
Escaping the pain of gravity
On invisible wings
Sprouted from the everything
Of before
And I knew then why
The world just seems to
Stop sometimes…

At sunrise

This is so well-written. I favor writing poetry just as I wake up and many of my own have this dream-like quality that comes just at dawn. I especially liked the line 'My mind raced like wild lightning through a forgotten time.' and knew that my mind had been there many times. I hear songs dancing across the sky a lot. Thanks for this lovely picture of a new morning. Raynette

Christine - People who read Cheryl Moyer also read Christine Cole. I consider that a compliment after checking out your poetry. Barely waking is a collision between surreal and rem shock. That means I think it's cool stuff. Best wishes - Cheryl

And I swear I heard A song dancing across The breathless sky Ah what a conviction … and existences on these nuances, these absent fillers of syncopated conversation that grow forests and jungles in a feeling heart

dawn, a most spiritual hour... unfortunately something we hardly see as we sleep through it....
