Beach Of Acheron Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Beach Of Acheron

The LST lay offshore rocking gently
from starboard to port

perhaps an abandoned merchant ship
that carried cargo and contraband
from Shanghai to Yokohama

perhaps that rumbling sound one heard
was thunder in the distance

coal black sand glittering
in hazy sunlight

rocky road leading up
into desolate hills
dark shrubs
twisted trees
writhing uphill

a barking dog
greets us
