Beautifully Masked Poem by Virginia Cairns

Beautifully Masked

You used to be
The one I cared for
The one I wanted

But you weren't who I thought you were
You were disguised
Cleverly as a knight in shining armor

Too bad your true self
Was finally revealed
Unmasked at last

Now when your mask is on
I see past your beauty
And the kindness you hide behind

Your charms and spells
No longer work on me
They are useless

I've finally overcome you
So take your mask and bag of tricks and lies
And leave my life!
