Beauty In 2008 Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Beauty In 2008

They moved with such perfection
Mannequins so tall and fine
And showed the garments graciously
'In days of roses and wine.'

Along the catwalk, floating on air,
To the latest romantic beat
In silken gowns and gorgeous furs
They were elegant and sweet.

Where are those pretty dancing girls?
Where have the flowers gone?
Too many models seen today
Are far too thin and wan.

Anorexia nervosa -
The phrase we dread to hear
Has crept into our fashion world
To haunt those girls so dear.

So please take heed of these kind words
Each model so sublime
Take pleasure in each nourishing meal
Retain your beauty through all time.
