Beauty Is Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Beauty Is

Beauty's Youth is
most times
intoxicated
with the Mirrors Image
blinding her to true
and false admirers.

Beauty Is
most times suffers from
lack of effort
because her gift
is given rather
than earned
or for some
it is a hindrance
because
blondes
are often
judged
upon their looks
and few are given
credit
without over-weening proof
of their competence
and often never.

Beauty yearns for Love
but her contenance
blocks its arrival
til at some point
hope is lost;
sycophants bore
and depression
arises
becoming Beauty's
Special Curse
accompanied by
envy from others-
their disdain
and
their deceitfulness
til beauty
some times
settles for
the protection
some strong one
can afford
or she begins to hide out
of her own accord
especially as the face lines
or the body goes.

Others still
welcome Beauty's Loss
content with
domesticity
in the place
of loves lost
from those
who over time
chase other
beauteous faces.

No, friend
beauty's lot
is not a kind lot
even as the Envious
chase her blondeness
which they curse
while paradoxically
seeking
it relentlessly
from the Peroxide
Bottle
and at
the Work-Out
Gym.
