Because I Love You Poem by Lone Dog

Because I Love You

Because I love you, son,
And know, without a doubt, you love me too;
When morning sheds the blackness of the night,
The happy days are those I spend with you.

Because I love you, son,
And know each day brings choices bad or good,
I've given you incentives that will help
You make, my son, the choices that you should.

My son,
I know from time to time you'll lose your way;
But I will not abandon you. We'll pick
The pieces up and start another day.

Because you love me too,
Remember to forgive me when I'm wrong.
And I am wrong, my son. But I try to do
What's right because my love for you's so strong.

My son,
I've shared with you the story of my past.
`Tis you who knows the sadness in my heart
And understands when I become downcast.

I love you, son,
And hope that every day of yours o'erflows
With the joys and happiness of being loved,
With self-confidence, and friends, and warm hellos.

Because I've loved you so,
I hope someday your love you'll gladly share.
You know the 'medicine' that love can be
To heal a lonely heart that needs repair.

Because you love me too,
Your secrets you have shared with me as friend,
And I have tucked them deep within my heart;
So deep, they're safe until the very end.

Beware! Good friends are few.
When tempted by your so-called friends, be strong,
For many friends are not your friends at all.
They'll lead you down the path of life that's wrong.

Because I love you so,
Your tears, which I have seen, cut like a knife;
Forever etched in memory till I die.
One tear's enough to cause my heart great strife.

You are a gift, my son.
So precious! So fragile! I fear the hurt I'd do
By thoughtless word or deed. I know I could
Not bear the hurt I'd have by hurting you.

Because I love you so,
I hope that you can understand just why
I dread that which I know is coming soon;
That hated day when you must say goodbye.

And when you've gone your way,
With only memories in my aging heart
I'll walk the few remaining steps alone;
Alone again, to face the final dark.
