'Before' Poem by Katherine York

'Before'

Before the final words are said,
And loves last dreams...are put to bed;
Listen to the hearts...final call
Ere heartbreak comes...to erase it all.

Before the first tear runs down the face,
In flowing streams...that patterns trace;
The heart is speaking...loud and clear,
If ears are open...to finally... hear.

Before the last footsteps...down the hall,
Echoes so loudly...off of each wall,
Pleas are coming, straight from this heart
One final word...before finalness starts.

Before the slamming... out of the door,
And it is too late...to start...all over;
The heart is making...one final try,
To express true love, before goodbye.

Before you turn...and just walk away,
Please listen to what...this heart does say.
Let it have...just one final chance,
To erase all past hurt...and peace enhance.

Before this heart accepts that, you will be gone,
God let it accept...and still be strong;
As your feet walk...down that hall,
Before the first teardrop...starts to fall.

Before this heart...just shatters and breaks,
Slam the door and go...for my soul's sake.
