Behind The Mirror Poem by Abhay Vignesh Liginlal

Behind The Mirror

Rating: 5.0

The lamp has been lit now by some unknown maiden
Where had you been all these years
Do not bid me farewell & vanish into the darkness of mystery
I cannot come after you for I do not know your name
This world is an ocean and my life is a boat in it
Years to come I will be but a distant memory on the shore;

Poetry quenches the thirst of my creative skill
Just because of the abundance of my memories
I keep repeating certain lines in poem after poem
For reflections are not the same in every mirror;

Where is the god who strikes thunder and lightning in my life?
He has given me the boon of freedom on earth
I revel in the mystery of this daily drama
As a different plot twist unfolds in the script
He is the god who gave me a hand, amidst every storm
Though he stood unseen at the other end;

Love, anger, joy and sorrow form a greater part of me,
Though the world sees me through a mask of pretense
I do not deceive the world
For I cannot see myself from the world’s point of view;

The world is filled with hypocrisy
A mirror which reflects you and me
My mask cannot become gruesome
For beneath it I am a man.
