Behind The Smoke Poem by Clarissa Briseno

Behind The Smoke

You sucked in the smoke and held it deep,
And I watched displeased,
Your eyes got red and watery, and my madness grew,
I told you to stop,
And you blew smoke in my face,
I walked away from you,
I thought while I was gone,
Years were passing by,
And I was just standing by,
I thought about the smoke,
I thought about what people said about you,
And just a layer down trough that smoke,
I was honey brown eyes that were honest,
I saw a gorgeous smile that was sincere,
I saw good deep down in you,
People called me crazy for missing you the way I did,
But the smoke you threw in my face,
Took away my sight,
And now years later I come back,
And I can clearly see,
You are a good man,
I was not wrong,
And deep down I had always known that,
Now it comes the time to be together,
And you asked me to stay with you forever,
I knew not what to say,
But then yes I said,
Because deep down under that smoke,
I was always able to see,
The potential in you,
The honesty you carry,
And the love you can give,
I always saw the good man you are.
