Behold The Day Poem by Donna McCord

Behold The Day

The sun peeks over the edge of the sky
And the earth shrugs off the night with a sigh
The dawn of a new day makes its entrance
And the night slips away in just an instant

The earth wraps itself in this shawl of heat
Fragrant life springs up with its need
And stands straight and tall as if to say
“Thank You God for giving us day”

Life is noticed more in the daylight
Birds are the first to break away from the night
The creatures that hide from the light seek the dark
Where coolness and dampness seem to lurk.

Now the sun is just one of the gifts we were given
But life will succumb to the heats deadly prison
For as good as day feels to all living things
God gave us relief from the day’s deadly sting.

And so the night slowly creeps back into place
And the wonder of God’s wisdom we now embrace
For every thing there is purpose and for day there is night
And God’s purpose for both is revealed in the twilight.
