Being Grateful

Just look around
And you will find
Plenty of things
Plenty of blessings
Plenty of grace
Some valuable
Some priceless

Suns that bring warmth
Moons that bring mirth
Of coolness and sweetness
Of subtle beauty speechless
Clouds that bring fattening dews
Winds that bring cooling breeze
Spring that bestows bounteous gifts
Autumn that pours rich harvest
All but we see in plenty

And the breath we take is not the least
They come not in scanty
Rather than seeing this life as breath- taking
Rather than taking a breath and pausing
And reflecting and appreciating life as it is
Our endless wishes are squeezing our breath out

We seem to say
We have not enough to be grateful this way
And wait till life ought to be a certain way
Imagine pretty hard it's raining
For the rain to stop, desire is wishing
And an umbrella, gratitude is carrying
If peace be the seed of happiness
Gratitude is the womb that it carries

Gratitude is not a promise of the future
But a commitment of the present fair
Peace is a choice
Peace is an option
Peace is a path to tread on
Being grateful is the easiest way to be peaceful
