Bella Sleeps Poem by Ellen Shaw

Bella Sleeps

Bella
Wakes at that time between night and morning
2 am
Beneath the high painted ceiling
Bella
Stirs and her senses overcome her
2am
And she moves in closer
Heart beating from inside out
Bare chest
Pressed
Into bare back
Ears listening
Beat beat beat
Bella is awake when he is asleep

Bella
Traces contours deep and shallow
2am
Making friends with the shadows
Bella
Breathes rapid fire
2am
Sleep pierced with her desire
Nose touching nose
Bare chest
Pressed
Into bare chest
Lips parted
Pupils wide
Bella is awake when he is by her side

Bella
Wakes him at that time between night and morning
2 am
Calling out to him
Bella
A chocolate flower opens in the dark
2am
Cocoa scented work of art
Blood pounding
Bare chest
Traced
By bare hand
Legs tangled
Eyes locked to eyes
Bella smiles Bella sighs

Bella
Sleeps at that time closer to morning Warm, safe
Loved and securely.
