Berkeley Poem by gershon hepner

Berkeley

Westward the course of empire takes its way,
unquestioning, though somewhat quirkily,
while in the university its resumé
is deconstructed by the brains of Berkeley.

Inspired by Paul Duguid’s review of “Berkeley: A City of History, ” by Charles Wollenberg in the TLS, April 11,2008. Duguid points out that Berkeley is named after George Berkeley’s prediction: “Westward the course of empire takes its way.”
