Beware Poem by Ankita Bhattacharjee

Beware

Rating: 5.0

Beware of people like me.
In silent midnights,
When you're drunk with sadness and grief,
We stand at your door
And keep on knocking,
Till the latches give away
And the walls of your fortress crumble to dust.
We charge at you
In your moments of vulnerability
With arrows poisoned with sweetness
And love.
We love you in ways
You never thought possible,
Fierce and passionate.
We're persistent, you see.
We do not quit halfway.
We delve deep into your heart and memories
And in quiet moments,
You bare yourself to us.
We caress you
Until every curve and crevice of your being
Is etched on our palms.
We stitch your cuts,
Heal your bruises
And worship your scars,
Till you start wearing them
As trophies of might and bravery.
And then,
One fine day
On your walk back home,
It will strike you as to how much you need us
And in more ways than one,
You'll find your home in us.
But that day, when you come back home
You'll find it blazing in flames.
You'll try to save it with all you have
But you see, we are ruthless
When it comes to leaving.
We'll burn you before we go.
We'll scar you with memories,
What-ifs and abandonment.
So darling,
Stop right now.
Do not fall for people like me.
For people like us, we stay,
Long after we're gone.
