Beyond All This Poem by Max Reif

Beyond All This

I see a child press a button,
then shout and jump with delight
that he made something happen,

but I have been pressing
the same buttons all my life
and I long for a way

out of every morning's maze
of roads and traffic
and people behind counters,
and all the rest of the repetitive
rounds of what I face and do,
or the Secret

of how to be in the maze
without being its slave,

and how to stay aware
of the difference
between comfort
and freedom
