Big Bill The So Called Redneck Poem by Francis Duggan

Big Bill The So Called Redneck

My wonder at human behaviour only does grow
On who is a redneck I thought I did know
But since the other day I'm not sure anymore
On my thinking I have been proved wrong before.

A more obvious candidate for the tag of redneck than Big Bill one could not wish to meet
A rough and sour looking character about him nothing sweet
But my words on him I feel I ought to eat
Since the other day I saw him helping old and frail Mrs Caro across the main street.

His type as a redneck society pigeon hole
Yet beneath his rough exterior is a kind and gentle soul
He helped an old lady in her time of need
His act of kindness and compassion surprised me indeed.

In his act of spontaneous kindness he showed his gentle side
A thing at most times that he manages to hide
Big Bill helping a frail old lady something I did not expect to see
And at his marvellous act of kindness there's none more surprised than me.
