Big Rock Redux

today I was accused of writing poems about
the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
In America.

times have changed I thought.
is it better now? now that folklore's down the drain
and people want poems that complain and

paint a bitter picture.
I will be glad, gladder than the gladdest thing
I heard a poet say once on the wing.

and so will I
I say today.
and so will I.
