Bittersweet Sketches Poem by Jeffery Joseph

Bittersweet Sketches

A woman's heart - deep ocean of secrets...
Something that's vital - to my heart I keep it....
Evident - in the pictures I drew...
Keep it real, hold on to the truth...

Bittersweet Sketches

This lucky ticket - opened the door...
an opportunity, that I was fighting for...

An opportunity to meet many people, young and old...
Some that were poor. Others who bathed in gold...
But the real opportunity was to meet someone that fell out of the sky...
At first site, I thought I wouldn't have a chance without a suit & tie...
My heart swallowed multiple beats...
The bloodflow ceased to reach my feet...
I stared at her, she looked to my direction...
My simple thoughts were guided by my affection...
Until I approached her the same night in an attempt to 'save here life'...
Little did I know, she was soon to be another man's wife...

Without a care for anything else, my eyes had fixed an oxy gaze...
On her personality and her beautiful exterior, and that's what stayed...
On my mind...

Next day, we both decided to a walk...
Not a silent stroll, as we began to talk...
The best of words weren't exchanged at the time...
I figured although she was disrespectful, I'd be honest to this dime...

As the day proceeded, we spoke of both our lives...
She spoke of precious inanimate objects, I spoke of how she's deprived...
Clearly, our mentalities weren't the slightest bit the same...
Even though I knew it, I had no shame...

I was rewarded with the opportunity to be present at a rich dinner...
After meeting her folks, the chances of me being with her couldn't get any thinner...
But it wasn't about fitting the parental need...
It was about meeting a standard where both of us agreed...

So later, we danced and danced and danced...
Who would've thought a girl like her and a lone gentleman would've romanced?

After the dances, we laughed as the night remained young...
All of this within days of being sprung...
We looked eye to eye as I set my hands gently on her hips...
With a tighter grip, I kissed her on the lips...
She said 'the length of time doesn't matter when it comes down to love, is it not true? '...
I said 'clearly true...all because...I found my Love in You...'
