Black Coffee Poem by Kevin Patrick

Black Coffee

Rating: 4.5

This venerated Stimulant
Stoutly Potent to the vascular system
Encourages a benign dependence
For junkies of the professional persuasion:
Caffeine’s the messiah of secular religion
A little pick me up for the 9 to 5 bridgehead
That must trundle along the chain gang
But caution must be properly observed
For although it might make you spry
Too much can often result in a crash
Leading to a lethal fatigue
No roasted bean can permanently cure

This Black brew needs an apothecary
That’s why I much prefer a cup of tea

It's a good poem to read. The poem draws an imagery that is visible and plausible to all. You have rightly cautioned us against over indulgence in black coffee that 'can often result in a crash Leading to a lethal fatigue No roasted bean can permanently cure' - Very well said! Above all, I like the last two lines, superb!
