Black Dress Poem by Ashley Dowdy (Forbus)

Black Dress

Black dress, pressed tight against my chest, it is a threat, but i need to look my best
Black veil plays merry go round with my neck, I stand on a deck while I am slowly losing my precious breaths
Black dress makes my head unbearably heavy, my breaths are too shallow, my eyes are dry and weary
but my eyes manage to still look dreary and I can still hear the faint murmurs of what is inside my chest
Long Black train against my rear slids down to hug my pale legs, it trys to robs me of my balance,
It follows my every step, haunts me while i prep for my next, I need to be strips of this beautiful dress
To everyone I look immaculate, the Black dress enjoys its tricks to manipulate, I need to hurry, it is going to be too late
I struggle to find the zipper to untangle this mess of a dress, so maybe I can think clearly again but
I trip and fall from standing too close to the edge of the deck, this will not me a fate I am full of hate
The Black veil that plays like a noose around my neck, I try to becken with the dress, I try to rest but
I cannot catch a breath, the Black dress, it is pressed too tight against my chest
Falling into nothingness, I feel almost numb, not freed but no longer a prisoner
Black dress gets snagged and the beautiful mess is no longer a threat
But I still hold on to that beautiful black dress, with the stuggling and being trapted without the black dress I am naked
I became like a see through glass, transparent to the other wickedness that surrounds me
I am still a mess even without the beautiful black dress
In dispare i cry out now for the black dress, beautiful was the tightness around my chest
Beautiful was the veil around my neck and as the train hugged my legs
I see only now the black dress was not a mess, it made me safe with holding me so tight
keeping my insides from falling out into the wrong hands of wickedness
I was kept in place with the beautiful black dress that i thought was a mess
