Blood Ties Poem by Mustafa Marconi

Blood Ties

Blood ties have been broken
Boundaries disrespected
Traditions destroyed and scattered
Blood ties
A family
A nation
All men created equal
Some more equal then others
Their dreams trampled
Their spirits swept away
Like locust in a windstorm
Everyman, every women for themselves
Community and loyalty
Are relics of the past
Love thy neighbor
Honor thy mother and father
Hallow words in this me and I society
Where boundaries are unspecified
Honesty, integrity and a man’s word
Like the American Buffalo
In need of protection
Almost extinct
Where promises and oaths
Have become the currency
Of a morally bankrupt society
And the power brokers
Rely on rhetoric and lies
To divide, conquer, and control
The only fraternity
That has graciously accepted
Each and every citizen of our earth
The human race
