Boardwalk Of Dreams Poem by Eric Paeplow

Boardwalk Of Dreams

As I look upon the boardwalk
Lined with benches
Along the sea shore
Filled with daydreamers and lovers
Each, wanting something more

The daydreamers silently wishing
For where the sea might take
The lovers
Quite content
With the choices they have made

As the daydreamers seek escape
From life's daily trials and strife
The lover's choose to swim
In each other's
Deep and soulful eyes

And rest their head
Oh so softly
Upon each other's lap
Their fingers tracing features,
As though following a map

As they follow over the hills and valleys
Of each other's supple flesh
Then gently stroke their lover's soft hair
Smelling of fragrance fresh

And while the daydreamers longingly
Wish for something else
The lovers kiss each other softly
And wish for nothing less

And as the crowd shuffle along
In their predictable steady pace
The young long to join the daydreamers
In search of a magical place
While the old
Look upon the lovers with knowing eyes
And silently reminisce

Remembering when they themselves
Once sat in that very same place
Gently caressing each other's hair
While tracing fingers over curves
Swimming in each other's eyes
And whispering words of love
