Brand New Empty Wardrobe Poem by Kris Whelan (1971)

Brand New Empty Wardrobe

I’ve got a brand new empty wardrobe that's sitting in your room
It seems senseless now to have bought it since everything went boom
Not to mind the bed we bought you slept in only twice
I never seen it coming; should have taken good advice
Now that brand new empty wardrobe that used to house my clothes
And all the things I thought I’d need for summer rain and snow
I guess it’s lying empty or full of your new clothes
A Kevin Costner poster or just like me deposed
You could use it all for firewood but that's not really how I care
But I can see it in the furnace, flames glowing in your hair
It’s just my desperation that makes me feel this way
It was my brand new empty wardrobe what else can I say
Except I didn’t mean the stuff I said about the furnace or the flame
But my brand new empty wardrobe, who else is to blame?
