Breakout Poem by gershon hepner

Breakout

It’s all right, darling, if you love me,
it’s all right if you don’t,
though I feel down when you’re above me,
I don’t mind that you won’t
pretend you’ll always care for me,
the truth will make me free,
but if you now feel there for me
I hope that you’ll agree
to take me through the night while we’ll
ignore each other’s fences,
until the dawn breaks and we feel
we’ve come back to our senses.

Inspired by “Breakout, ” a song by Tom Petty that I think concluded “Recount, ” and HBO movie about the Florida election in 2000 that lead to the Supreme Court decision that decided that Al Gore had lost the election and George W. Bush had won. He movie starred Tom Wilkinson as James Baker, brilliantly and ruthlessly leading the Republican legal team, and Kevin Spacey as the lawyer who took over from a dysfunctional Warren Christopher to lead the Democratic legal team.

Breakup

It's all right if you love me
It's all right if you don't
I'm not afraid of you running away
Honey, I've got the feeling you won't

There is no sense in pretending
Your eyes give you away
Something inside you is feeling like I do
We said all there is to say

Baby Breakdown
Go ahead and give it to me
Breakdown honey take me through the night
Breakdown now I standin' here can't you see
Breakdown, it's all right
It's all right
It's all right

Breakdown
Go ahead and give it to me
Breakdown honey take me through the night
Breakdown now I standin' here can't you see
Breakdown, it's all right
It's all right
It's all right
