Brightest Star Poem by Ryan Orleans

Brightest Star

Rating: 5.0

A sky so dimly lit
As dusk slowly encroaches
A lonesome heart permits
The anguish that approaches

September sky, so dreary
Our summer swiftly fades
My heavy mind grows weary
As dreams take me away

So close, yet not at all
My love, my brightest star
Will I ever hear your call
Or have you fallen too far

Broken and defeated
My sunken soul seeks rest
Where may I find peace
If not laid upon your chest

My love, my brightest star
Please save me from tomorrow
Save me from these scars
Please warm me with your glow

My skies have faintly drifted
Darker without your light
My fears now deeply vivid
As you vanish from my night

A shattered self in pieces
Tears glimmering under the moon
But in pieces, I will wait
I know you will find me soon

Be safe, and be strong
My love, my brightest star
Always, I will love you
No matter where you are

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It has been a long time since I last posted a poem here. In all honesty, in 2015, I was able to find love again. And we were together until this month (September 2016) . It was an amicable break-up. But it still rattled me. Especially considering it took everything I had to pull myself out of the pit I fell into in my previous relationship and finally start loving again. I am just venting out my agony, I suppose.
