Broken Down By The Freeway Poem by Francis Duggan

Broken Down By The Freeway

Broken down by the freeway traffic buzzing to and fro
Between the big towns at the peak hour slow
For the RACV I feel obliged to wait
My old car has not been running smoothly of late.

'Things could be worse than this far worse 'twould seem
This is not even worth one minor scream
Perhaps a new battery and all will be okay
This is not even near to my worst day.

Broken down by the freeway but then such is life
Not even worse than being screamed at by one's wife
Stressed by the noise of the traffic buzzing up and down
Whilst waiting for a tow truck from the nearest town.

Broken down by the freeway life is not always fair
To my destination around halfway there
Yet things could be far worse and I will get by
Though 'twould seem my old jalopy is about to die.
