Broken Dreams Poem by Angela Michel

Broken Dreams

Rating: 5.0

New Love
Life of a Princess,
dreams of forever
rise with the dawn.
He was her true love
till he had won her,
then he had to control her,
make her his pawn.

Oppressor
His need to possess her
to rule her completely,
controlling him now.
It's all about him.
A warped way of thinking.
He says that he owns her
since they exchanged vows.

Trying to hang on,
seeking solutions.
Talking to counselors
(he won't go along)
Tired of the violence.
of being his puppet.
She feels like a caged bird,
life without song.

Dreams crushed, laying broken.
No hope for tomorrow.
Abuse never ending,
she must move on.
How can she tell him?
Ashamed of her weakness.
Afraid of not living
to see the next dawn.

It's a new day.
The tables have turned.
He is the prisoner
and finally she's free.
They say she's an angel.
That she is in heaven,
playing a harp
at her fathers knee.
