Bryan Waller Procter Poem by Francis Duggan

Bryan Waller Procter

Bryan Waller Procter wrote under the pen name of Barry Cornwall
He was a very under rated poet
He was the father of Adelaide Anne Procter
The poetess and hymn writer and one worthy of note.

He lived a long life well into his nineties
And so many very fine poems he did write
Born in the late eighteenth century in Leeds in Yorkshire in England
On the literary hill he climbed to a great height.

As Barry Cornwall he is known much better
His finest poems have stood the test of time
He is not as well remembered as some others
But he was more than your average man of rhyme.

Some of his poems well worth a second reading
The master wordsmith with words had a way
He was a man who wrote easy to understand stuff
And some of his poems anthologized today.

Lets raise our toasting glass to Barry Cornwall
A poet the critics tend to under rate
Yet his stuff is well worth a second reading
And he is one we ought to celebrate.
