Buddy Poem by Emma Haze

Buddy

This is the story of a dog named Buddy,
He worked for the military,
Finding people that were missing.

But one day, something happened,
And Buddy fill ill to protect a little girl,
Who had been kidnapped, and escaped,
and was hiding.

The kidnapper had a gun, and he found her,
and aimed his gun at her, but Buddy won't stand
for this,
And he jumped in front of the bullet for her.

The girls name was Elizabeth Hart,
She'd been missing for about a month,
And little Elizabeth was only ten,
Poor Buddy wasn't expected to live.

Buddy took the bullet in his shoulder,
But Buddy still, he did his job, and got her
safe and sound,
Before Buddy laid down, and closed his brown eyes.

And Buddy dreamed he was in a land full of sweets,
With a family of three,
Who where there to love him, and give him attention,
Oh, it was Buddy's secret dream.

But in the dream, a young girl cried out,
and Buddy woke up, to see,
Little Lizzie was crying.

'Please don't die, Buddy,
You risked your life to save me,
And I'd do the same, just please,
Wake up and come home with me.'

Buddy's heart filled, with love for this girl,
That he had rescued from certain peril,
And the girl fell in love with Buddy,
the moment she saw him coming.

So Elizabeth stayed by his side,
All throughout the days and nights,
Didn't leave, only if she had to,
But she stayed right by him, telling him
a story or two.

She told him about her family, about her home,
And told him how she was so lonely,
Then looked him in the eyes and asked him,
'Buddy, I love you, do you love me?
Do you want to come home with me,
and be my best friend and part of my family? '

And Buddy, now well, jumped up and she felt her heart swell,
And playfully he barked, and growled,
And licked her face til she laughed out loud.

'I guess that's a yes, ' she whispered as she petted his head,
then finally overcome with happiness, threw her arms around his neck,
and cried, hugging him tightly but gently,
'Oh Buddy, I love you.'
And Buddy, he seemed to smile, as he thought,
'I love you to, little Lizzie.'
