Building While Still Wet Poem by Joshua Bantum

Building While Still Wet

These things collapse before the concrete even dries
Maybe we built too early in spring
It was beautiful then,
So we grabbed opportunity
But our passionate hands grabbed to tight
Strangled our dreams and let go of the process that could have bore light
Now with it all in the past
The brush that painted those dreams and nightmares starts to strike my visions once more
New women frozen in the fear I’ve created with you
I feel our fingers haven’t loosened
Still bruising happiness,
It’s so fragile like a petal being
Held in our hands
We pressure till its dark red
Now its essence is gone,
I must leave it behind like its dead
And not pay attention to the seeds that we have shed
